Neck and Shoulder Pain
Neck and shoulder pain is not uncommon among many people, and you might have experienced it at one time or the other in your life. Neck and shoulder pain comes about usually as a result of an accident or injury to the neck, and when this affects muscles in the neck then it brings tough pains and discomforts to the sufferer. Meanwhile, it should be noted that apart from accidents and direct injuries, some underlying medical conditions might also be responsible for neck and shoulder pain. Causes of neck and shoulder pain
- Degenerative or herniated cervical disc: When you have a herniated disc in the regions of your neck, it could cause big problems unless otherwise treated in time. A degenerative disc could also cause equal pains in the neck and these pains often spread to the shoulder region to make things really worse. A degenerative or herniated disc in the neck could cause swellings and great discomforts, and sometimes surgery might be the last solution to solving the problem if anything else fails.
- Broken collarbone: Have you ever suffered a fall or an accident and had your collarbone broken? This is a very painful thing to experience, and it causes great neck and shoulder pain that might render you useless to anything you want to achieve at work and at home. When a collarbone is broken between the neck and the shoulders, it is a delicate matter and urgent medical attention should be sought before things get out of hand.
- Gallbladder and inflammation of the diaphragm: These are medical conditions that can cause considerable neck and shoulder pain, and when you especially suffer from an inflammation of the diaphragm, then the matter is made worse because an active use of your neck and shoulders or arms might be hampered.
Symptoms of neck and shoulder pains
- Deformity: When you notice any sort of deformity in your neck or shoulder region, you must visit a doctor at once for diagnosis. When there is a misalignment of a disc in the neck, it could lead to deformity and when you also suffer injury to your collarbone, it could lead to deformity with great attendant pains.
- Stiff neck: When you are unable to move your neck without moving your whole body, then you have there a symptom of neck and shoulder trouble and you must seek medical attention.
- Pains: When you experience swellings with any attendant pains in your neck, shoulders and within your shoulder and neck region, then you are sure having a trouble that requires medical attention.
Treatment of shoulder and neck pains
- Medications: Medications serve to bring a lot of relief when you have shoulder and neck pains, but they must be prescribed by a medical and qualified doctor to have optimum effects.
- Exercises: Exercising the neck by stretching it actually strengthens it, and the more you exercise it as recommended by your physician will bring great relief to your shoulder and neck region.
