Stiff Neck Causes
What are the causes of a stiff neck? What is responsible for your inability to move your neck or head any way you like without having to move your entire body? But do you need to swivel on your feet before speaking to someone on your far left or right? Well, if you have to really swivel to speak to anyone on your feet, then you are possibly suffering from a stiff neck, and you need to seek quick medical or alternative solutions to the condition before it gets out of hand. What again is responsible for a stiff neck or alternatively, what are the stiff neck causes that you know? The following are the major stiff neck causes in the book:
- Osteoarthritis: This is one of the stiff neck causes and osteoarthritis occurs when due to aging or fatal injuries, there is wear and tear in the ligaments, tendons and muscles of the neck. These conditions could be so bad enough as to cause a stiffness of the neck in any one person involved in an accident.
- Fatal injuries: Injuries could result from auto crashes or from participating in sporting activities and these could be so fatal as to cause a tear in ligaments and a pull in tendons. These injuries could sure cause so much harm as to induce stiffness in the neck and associated pains in other parts of the body.
- Rheumatoid arthritis: Like any other form of arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis could cause a stiff neck and could limit body movements and motions. Just like some having meningitis, fibromyalgia and neck arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis could be very painful and could cause some swellings in the affected parts.
- Pinched nerve: This is another one among many stiff neck causes, and may be caused by a narrowing down of spinal tissues and others.
- Meningitis and fibromyalgia: Meningitis occurs when the fluids in the spine become inflamed and infected with disease, often resulting in a stiff neck and pains in the body. You could also have fibromyalgia is a disorder that affects the joints and muscles of the body, causing muscle contractions and spasms and this could one way or the other lead to stiffness of the neck.
- Herniated disc in neck: When you suffer from a bulging disc in the neck or from a herniated disc in the neck region of the spine, it could lead to a stiff neck and could cause excruciating pains and difficulty in movement. You may not be able to move your body in any way until you seek some medical and alternative solutions, and walking or doing office or home tasks may prove very difficult and awkward.
It should be stated that when you detect that you painful swellings and tenderness or tingling sensations in your neck or shoulders and even down the lower back, you must visit your doctor for diagnosis and to commence a treatment. Suffering from a stiff neck may even be a symptom of something greater, and it might help to diagnose and treat it in due time.
